Silverline Antimicrobial EVD catheters

Silverline catheters into the 2% nano-sized ( one millionth of mm ) impregnated with silver particles and insoluble silver salts. Silver saltsa are a powerful antiseptic and effective in a wide spectrum. Because of very small-sized particles with very large surface to obtain the total. Immediately after catheter placement, silver salts in the concentration of antiseptic begins to extremes from catheter surface. When the release of ion slowed down from silver salts, ion release begins from silver particles and will continue for a long time. The combination of the ion oscillation in a short time and the long period of time, allows the optimum application in time. Silver, the cell wall of the permeable membrane in energy metabolism SH group of enzyme systems are active makes it inactive. In other words silver ions, the bacterial respiratory chain blocks. Silverline antimicrobial made radio-opaque polyurethane ventricular catheter is placed into one of the brain ventricles. There are marking on it indicating the depth. Luer-lock connector with an external ventricular drain connection kit is done. Suture part helps to secure the catheter in the scalp. Trocar catheter is used for the tunnel opening. It helps to stylet catheter placed into the ventricle.

1. Model No: EVD 30.010.02 (8F)
Outer diameter :
2.7 mm , Inner diameter : 1.6 mm, Height : 270 mm

2. Model No: EVD 30.030.02 (10F)
Outer diameter:
3.3mm, Inner diameter : 1.9 mm, Height : 270 mm

One of the serious complications of external ventricular drainage is infections. Even with the best surgical techniques and highly aseptic instruments are used infections can not be prevented completely. Antibiotic- impregnated catheters is a way to reduce the likelihood of infection. Silver particles and its salts used in Silverline catheters, antiseptic effect created in conjunction with antibiotic therapy does not prevent the implementation.

In tests the following bacterial groups Silverline catheters were found to be a powerful influence:

  • Staph. aureus,
  • Staph. epidermidis,
  • Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus,
  • E. coli,
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa,
  • Candida albicans, and
  • Candida glabrata

Silverline catheters seen to be effective against bacteria with a wide spectrum in all the hospitals. For this reason, ventricular catheter infections to fight Silverline is a good alternative.
